At the front-line – women in Ukraine are changing the world – a 90 minutes event on Wednesday 14 February 2024

Women make up 54% of the population of Ukraine and 47% of its labor force. Over 60% of all Ukrainian women have higher education and many areas of civil life can presently only be sustained with their efforts. This is also true for organic farming and food security.

Organized by “German-Ukrainian Cooperation in Organic Farming” COA (http://coa-ukraine.com/en/ ) and Swiss-Ukrainian Program “Higher Value Added Trade from the Organic and Dairy Sectors in Ukraine” QFTP (https://qftp.org/en/), Ukraine’s organic sector is in the focus of this year’s all-women event at the BIOFACH congress.

Six female leaders of the Ukrainian organic sector from business, industry, policy and civil society will present insights on achievements and challenges confronting the organic sector in Ukraine under the current conditions of war.

“A brand-new gender study will be presented by one of our partners, highlighting the important role of women in Ukraine” explains Tobias Eisenring, QFTP program director, and Dr. Stefan Dreesmann, project leader of COA points out another highlight:  a cutting-edge video that will impressively portray Ukrainian female leaders and pioneers of the organic movement.

The event will serve as an excellent platform to inform all participants of BIOFACH about the challenges and opportunities of the organic sector in Ukraine and for Ukrainian women to interact with participants how strategies can be improved and where support is needed.
